Guess Who has a job at the Watershed Dollar store?

6/1/2020

We never expected Dee Dee would show up when we called over to the Dollar Store. She's working security. Sounds like she's moonlighting since she's supposed to be working security for the Gary & Mark Podcasting University. She's effective at what she does, that's for sure.

Looking good, Dee Dee!

GMPU Athletic director has the answer to pandemic

5/15/2020

Don Silleman, the Gary & Mark Podcasting University Athletic Director, visited the show for this episode. And it’s a good thing. We were worried about our athletic program for the coming fall season. But, as is usually the case, Don has the answer to keeping the program active and on the cusp of greatness in the world of big-time college sports.

Dee dee, leader of the Wicked women of watershed

5/1/2020

This was one of those days we were happy to be socially distancing. This episode was recorded via Zoom and we had as our guest, Dee Dee, the gang leader of the W3 - Wicked Women of Watershed Motorcycle Gang. It was a rocky introduction but we'll try to stay on her good side. You can also find a video version of this on our YouTube channel.

Social distancing - we're taking this seriously

4/1/2020

Gary and Mark got together to record this episode from a proper social distancing distance. We brought in three guests via phone including Mayor Thomas, Mayor of Watershed; Joseph Clarke, the legal counsel for the show and university; and Frank Schell, a friend who happens to be a pickleball champion and is taking over that sport for the university as well as serving as the new tourism and development director for Rabbit Island Resort.

How parents can save $200,000...

3/15/2020

We have a lot going on in episode 27 and today we're recording at a new place to us, the Wakey Monkey Coffee Cafe in Saluda, North Carolina. In these times of investment markets swinging all over the place - we can save you 200 grand in about 45 seconds. We also had Matt Noller on the show, owner of the Wakey Monkey to tell us about his fine establishment. We throw in a history lesson and other assorted bits of fun.

Cat Abuse of the Elderly...

3/1/2020

Cat bullying of the elderly is a real thing. We can help. In this episode you'll also meet the newest hire at "The Gary and Mark Podcasting University" and learn about the event Dr. James Moore will be coaching, the Aluminum Man Triathlon.

"Security pants" - Fun Underwear for Adults

2/15/2020

We’re putting the “continents” back in incontinence! The Gary and Mark Show doesn’t just rest when we’re climbing to the top. We’re always coming up with new businesses to help support the show, and Gary’s idea for “Security Pants” is bound to be a winner! Listen in to get on the ground floor.

We also have some more news about our upcoming movie production of Pam Stone’s novel, “Girls Like Her.”

Just like water, we're all headed downhill

2/1/2020

Almost the entire faculty and administration of the Gary and Mark Podcasting University spent a pleasant half day in a team building trek to Drip Falls. Originally the activity was to take place at the luxurious Rabbit Island Resort, but after much thought and deliberation it was determined that a faculty retreat in a spa-like setting would send the wrong message to our student(s) and their parents.

After a grueling two miles in which we had to walk both ways, with much discussion we reflected upon the waterfall we’d seen and how much gravity has to do with just about everything we do.

Just like the water, we’re all headed downhill.

For us the big treat was lunch at Green River Barbecue in Saluda where we were surprised to learn that Wednesday is FREE DESSERT DAY!

Returning to our roots and all the news from Watershed

1/15/2020

We travel back to where our friendship began for this episode. Gary and Mark met at Camp Mondamin in 1971 and decided to celebrate their 49th year of friendship by recording on the tower at the camp overlooking Lake Summit. And if fact, if you squint you can get a glimpse of Rabbit Island. As always, lots of fun stuff going on in 25 minutes.

New Year, New Season, and then there's a certain magazine...

1/1/2020

Gary and Mark welcome the New Year with a new season and a new episode. They batted around the idea of making some New Year's resolutions...but quickly voted that down. And then Gary brings up a certain magazine that will definitely have the old geezers talking down on the corner in Watershed.

Two Guests, Two Beers, Lots of Fun

12/15/2019

We end our first season with another free-wheeling episode where anything happens. And it did. We had an innocent bystander join us for one segment. His name is Captain Jim Lombardo and you'll hear his story. That will show you not to get too close when we're recording. And our second guest was as old camp friend who is living in an assisted living facility. We experimented with Chris as he was our first interview by phone. We're thinking Chris might want to leave his current place and move down to Watershed and give the new retirement place at home, Trails End, a chance.

Lots of news from watershed

12/1/2019

After hosting a few guests over the past handful of episodes, Gary and Mark finally have time to catch everyone up on the news from Watershed, North Carolina. And there is a lot of it. Possible admissions scandal involving a whistleblower at the Gary & Mark Podcasting University is just one part of the news. We're also thinking of starting our own movie production company and plan to see if Pam Stone will sell us the rights to produce a film based on her best-selling novel, Girls Like Her.

Pam stone - tv star. comedian, and author visits with gary & Mark

Comments

We had a blast sitting down with Pam Stone for a good hour-long show. Pam is probably best known for co-starring seven seasons on the ABC-TV sitcom, "Coach," with Craig T. Nelson. That's just the beginning. She's been on the Jay Leno Show, she's written a couple of books, has a couple of syndicated newspaper columns, and she rides horses and teaches dressage. She's also downright funny.

We picked an absolutely gorgeous fall day to meet with Perry Hodgkins Jones, development officer with Muddy Sneakers.  This unique program rounds up fifth graders from schools throughout the region and takes them from the indoor classroom to the outdoor classroom. It's a fascinating look at how Muddy Sneakers is changing minds and developing stewards of our only planet.

Originally, The Gary & Mark Podcasting University planned to focus on academics. We knew sports programs were expensive and would just take away from our mission. But our students and alumni have petitioned us to join the big schools. In this episode you are introduced to our new Athletic Director, Don Silleman. Don talks about some of his goals as our new AD.

Gary and Mark sit down with Chuck Hearon to talk about his 2,200 mile backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail. It was quite a journey and it was fun having Chuck talk about this experience that he was finishing up almost exactly twenty years ago.

After mangling their name for several episodes, Angela Nicholas forgives us and offers Saluda Outfitters (Home of Green River Eddy's Tap Room & Grill) to consider their home, our home. And so it's official. We have a "real" sponsor and we're thrilled. Angela also starts the first of our FAQ segments where she reads listener questions.

Okay, so we're not talking "necessarily" sneaking a beer when we were too young...but just some of those early experiences with the brew. Howard Yarborough joined us for this interview. Howard has since become a staff member.
