Our recorder. Love this thing. It's the Rode Rodecaster Pro.

Rode has a new version called the Rodecaster Pro II.

The usual microphone I use for podcasting is the Shure SM 58. It's considered an industry workhorse.

There's a less expensive version of the SM 58. It's the SM 48. I honestly can't tell the difference and it will save you a lot of money.

If you're going to record video of your podcast, this is a camera to consider.
Sony ZVe10
The Sony ZVe10 is the camera I use for recording our podcasts. I love it for several reasons. It has a flip out screen that can face front which is crucial to help frame the shot. This camera has fantastic auto focus and a couple of neat features that are accessible with the touch of an on-camera button. One is the “showcase” feature which will instantly change focus from being on the person to an object that someone holds up toward the camera lens. It also has an instant defocus button that changes the cameras settings automatically to put the background out of focus. I also appreciate that has a jack for both a microphone and headphones. Another feature I love is that this camera has a red "tally" light on the front that illuminates to let you know that you are indeed recording. Finally, it is an interchangeable lens camera giving you additional possibilities. I bought my ZVe10 with the 16-50mm lens. |
